No, it's not Valentine's Day that is expected to set a new record for the number of SMSs sent on 14 February this year. With Chinese New Year falling on Sunday, pundits are anticipating as many as 19-billion SMS on that day.

Last month, over the Western New Year in Sweden alone, an average of nine SMSs per subscriber were sent – which experts are extrapolating to 19-billion for the Chinese New Year this weekend.
The previous peak record was during the broadcast of American Idol in the US last year, when-178 million SMSs were sent.
Gartner says that SMS numbers worldwide are expected to reach 2,3-trillion in 2010, according to Gartner.
