There may be a few surprised faces in the audience at Samsung's Africa Forum today when the company's new Director of IT and Office Automation for Africa takes to the stage in his maiden presentation to partners and key customers.

Local IT industry stalwart, Thierry Boulanger, who spent almost 20 years at Hewlett-Packard SA and, more recently, enjoyed a six-month stint at IBM, officially joined Samsung on Monday.
As Samsung's Director of IT/OA for Africa, Boulanger will spearhead the company's expansion into all African territories outside of South Africa.
Africa has been earmarked as a key market by Samsung and they arguably couldn't have hired a more competent African hand than Boulanger.
Along with Gilbert Farino, Boulanger was responsible for establishing HP's distribution and partner network throughout Africa in the early 2000s which is considered by many to be the most successful on the continent.
Boulanger says he is "relishing the challenge" of establishing Samsung in a similar position.
