Alcatel-Lucent has announced that it has been selected by Togo Cellulaire, the leading mobile operator in Togo, for a major expansion and upgrade of its 2G/3G wireless network.
This network extension is a new phase of the multi-million euro wireless broadband network transformation deal awarded last year by Alcatel-Lucent to extend Togo Cellulaire network capacity in GSM and to build the first 3G network in the country.
The new network will enable Togo Cellulaire to offer advanced mobile broadband services, and to reach a greater number of subscribers and improve their already high quality of service by taking advantage of scalable bandwidth to accommodate the anticipated surge in mobile traffic.
Alcatel-Lucent will be the sole supplier transforming Togo Cellulaire's network with an end-to-end solution that will significantly boost the operator's GSM/EDGE (2.5G) network capacity and coverage, and raise its 3G network to HPSA+ (3.75G) wireless capability.
It will also provide new microwave links to address the growing demand for advanced mobile high broadband services through an all-IP broadband network.
This strategic contract strengthens the long term partnership between Alcatel-Lucent and Togo Cellulaire, and will enable the operator to leverage and build on its existing investments to enhance 3G HSPA+ network and to deliver new personalised innovative multimedia services to its business and users in the country.
As part of the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will provide a turnkey project based on its world class expertise, resources and critical professional services.
These include installation and commissioning for a great part of the equipment involved in the network expansion deployment, 3G network design, radio network planning, field integration, optimisation and project management, and associated management systems enabling Togo Cellulaire to introduce new multimedia applications.
“Our longstanding relationship with Alcatel-Lucent and their world class experience in network transformation and its true commitment were the key reasons we re-engage our confidence for this challenging project,” says Atcha-Dedji Affoh, CEO of Togo Cellulaire.
“The Alcatel-Lucent’s solution will help us expand our network and introduce the innovative wireless services in the country.”
“Combining our good knowledge of advanced operators with our world class capabilities and comprehensive portfolio, we accompany customers hand in hand to anticipate innovation and economic growth,” says Adolfo Hernandez, president of Alcatel-Lucent’s activities in EMEA.
"The Alcatel-Lucent’s solution will support Togo Cellulaire network efficiency, and will meet its subscribers' requirement for mobile high speed internet access."
Since 1998, Alcatel-Lucent became Togo Cellulaire’s main supplier of advanced mobile solutions, including radio access, core network and applications such as personalised ring back tones, mobile email and billing.
Alcatel-Lucent will build and extend Togo Cellulaire's network capacity in GSM (2G/EDGE), as well as its 3G wireless broadband network in the country.
