Gilat Satellite Networks has been chosen as the Gateway Communications’ primary VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) provider.
This strategic cooperation will further enhance the provision of telecommunication services to mobile and fixed line operators, connecting them within Africa, and to the rest of the world.
Gilat’s SkyEdge II VSAT network provides a platform for Gateway Communications’ Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) technology, which allocates satellite capacity based on time, frequency and availability. The collaboration will also allow multiple networks throughout Africa to be controlled from one management centre.
A Gilat SkyEdge II hub has been installed at Gateway’s Network Operations Center in Belgium, deploying DAMA services across Africa. These services will include cellular backhaul applications, broadband access for telecommunications companies, backbone restoration and rural telephony.
“After evaluating the foremost VSAT providers, we established that Gilat offered the optimal combination of superior technology, qualified support and experience in the cellular backhaul market, and complemented our philosophy of market innovation and customer service,” said Gateway’s chief operating officer, Phil Braden. “Through this partnership Gateway Communications will continue to provide high-quality, efficient and cost-effective solutions to Africa.”
Guy Moskowitz, executive vice-president: sales at Gilat, says: “We look forward to working with Gateway Communications and supporting them as they advance business productivity and connectivity on the African continent. Gilat’s high-performance satellite communication solutions were designed to meet the requirements of multi-star networks as well as for cellular backhaul applications, a perfect fit for the growing telecommunication requirements of operators and end users across Africa.”
