SAS named software market leader in Ovum report

SAS, the leader in business analytics software and services, was named market leader in Ovum's Solution Guide to Credit Risk Management in Banking.

The Ovum report provides a summary of SAS Credit Risk Management capabilities, based on a quantitative assessment of SAS's influence in the market, the quality and breadth of the provided functionality, and the underlying technology.
SAS was placed on the Ovum vendor shortlist because SAS delivers "robust, complete solutions that are able to support significant portions of the credit lifecycle and overall credit risk management. Moreover, these vendors have an established presence in and commitment to risk management and other areas in the banking industry".
The Ovum shortlist rating is a category where the vendor has established a commanding market position with a product that is widely accepted as best of breed.
Ovum reported that "SAS provides an exceptionally complete and robust credit risk management solution through the successful combination of underlying technologies and risk functionality.
"In addition, the strong focus on risk management provides a solid foundation for the vendor to become a strategic technology supplier in the long run for enterprises that are looking for an integrated approach to enterprise risk management. Consequently, Ovum believes that banks seeking to implement a credit risk management solution from which they can realise long-term value should shortlist SAS."
SAS was also noted for scoring "the highest in the area of strategy and execution, and as the provider of a suite of tools that handles extracting, transforming, cleansing, and leading data to the credit risk warehouse. In addition, the vendor's technology scored highest in terms of the ease and extent with which it can exist, combine, and work with the products, services, and solutions from other vendors".
The Ovum analysis summarised that "SAS has a very strong technology foundation for its vertical solutions, including the area of risk management, particularly data management, analytics, and business intelligence.
"Given the fact that a number of credit risk enhancement projects have recently focused heavily on data management, SAS is very well positioned as a market leader in the current market environment. Credit scoring and risk solutions are the most popular in the overall strong risk software offering from SAS.
"In addition, the ongoing focus on leveraging synergies between other analytical components such as customer insight or anti-fraud areas makes the technology a valuable asset for the long term. With its SAS Detail Data Store for Banking, SAS is one of only a few vendors that support the concept of an enterprise data warehouse that provides a data foundation layer for a number of middle and back-office analytical applications."
"The need to have a credit risk management solution that can adapt to meet the needs of evolving credit risk strategies has always been at the heart of the SAS risk architecture design," says David Rogers, SAS global product marketing manager for risk.
"The important thing is SAS can offer an open solution in which all dynamics can be followed and understood by risk analysts who can service information requests from stakeholders such as regulators and board members."
More than 200 organisations use SAS for risk management, including businesses in Europe, Africa, Asia and the United States.
