Tarsus adds Microsoft, mulls software division

In a move that is expected to shake up the local distribution market, Tarsus Technologies and Microsoft have announced the signing of a distribution agreement which will see Tarsus becoming an authorised  Microsoft Distributor for South Africa.

The agreement means that Tarsus can now distribute all its traditional hardware brands with Microsoft Office 2010 (full retail package products), as well as Microsoft OEM Windows and Server products, traditionally sold with new PCs or servers.
Pierre Spies, CEO of Tarsus Technologies, comments: “Tarsus Technologies is a business that is adaptive to both its environment and its customer’s ever-changing needs. We are able to anticipate the additional services and products that are going to provide value to the channel and this agreement with Microsoft is one of those additions.”
Microsoft believes that its reinforced relationship with Tarsus will drive high levels of customer satisfaction and provide a complete offering to the marketplace.
“This agreement is a classic win-win situation for everyone involved,” says Francois Rey, OEM Director at Microsoft SA. “We already had a strong distribution partnership with Tarsus subsidiary Platinum Micro. Consolidating our distribution agreements at a holding company level will enable Tarsus Technologies to drive greater Microsoft revenues through their channels.
“Microsoft benefits from a more complete offering being provided to the marketplace; and resellers and end-users benefit from a full range of technologies that better meets their business needs.”
Spies adds: “Both companies see value far beyond a simple distribution arrangement in the relationship that has been forged. In fact, this agreement could be a precursor to Tarsus forming a software focused-division. But for now this will enable us to offer a complete solution and make Tarsus a ‘one-stop-shop’, enhancing customer experience and simplifying channel logistics.”
