LG Electronics (LG) has been confirmed as the world’s first mobile phone to use a dual-core processor for its LG Optimus 2X smartphone by the Guinness World Records. This Dual-core technology enables the LG Optimus 2X handset to provide advanced processing power that enables the device to be faster and deliver a more powerful performance through its superior multimedia features.

“LG is delighted that the LG Optimus 2X has been awarded the title of the world’s first dual-core smartphone by the Guinness World Records,” says Michael Bang, general marketing manager for LG Electronics South Africa.
“The LG Optimus 2X marks a new age in smartphone technology that provides extraordinary levels of speed and exceptional functionalities."
Frank Foley, senior VP of Guinness World Records, says, “Guinness World Records is proud to announce this new award, and congratulates LG Optimus 2X on this achievement in the always fast-paced world of technology.”
LG unveiled the Optimus 2X device at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show during January in Las Vegas. From July 2011, South African consumers will be able to experience a dual-core 1GHz chipset that will be available in the Optimus 3D smartphone.
This revolutionary rapid processor is capable of reaching speeds of around 300MHz and also allows for stereoscopic imaging to be possible on the Optimus 3D handset.
Developed by graphics processor powerhouse NVIDIA, the dual-core Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip found in the LG Optimus 2X runs at a clock speed of 1GHz and boasts low power consumption and high performance for playing video and audio.
Users can experience faster Web browsing and smoother game play compared with single-core processors running at the same speed, as well as instantaneous touch response and seamless multitasking between applications.
Enabling 1080p HD video playback and recording, the LG Optimus 2X also offers a PC-like full browsing experience with HD or Flash content. The device is optimised for easy connection and sharing.
The content mirroring function through the HDMI interface can expand the display through micro HDMI to a full HD display, while DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) enables simple wireless content sharing among the LG Optimus 2X and other digital devices.
Using the content mirroring through HDMI interface with the Gyro sensor, consumers can also play games from the phone directly on a Full HD TV for a more vibrant gaming experience.
The LG Optimus 2X enables a console-like ultimate gaming experience thanks to its vivid graphics. The phone also packs a front-facing camera, microSD memory expandability, microUSB connectivity and a 1500mAh battery.
