IP Dimension has announced their partnership with StorageCraft. Through this partnership, the company will look to revolutionise the backup and restore industry in South Africa, with world class products like the Storagecraft Shadowprotect Range for Desktops and Servers.

According to Cornel Van der Westhuizen, new products development manager at IP Dimension, almost 90% of SMBs and enterprise organisations in South Africa still make use of Windows NT based backup procedures, or use products available on the shelves in IT retail stores.
"The problem is not in how the backups are performed, but how long it takes to restore from those backups in case of hardware or software failure," says Van der Westhuizen.
"Organisations seem to forget that performing a full system backup only leaves you with a copy of the data; you still need to integrate the data after re-installing the operating system in the event of hardware or software failures, and this is where the most time is lost."
Discussing the important factors to consider when purchasing disaster recovery software, Van der Westhuizen lists:
* RTO – recovery time objective. An RTO is the maximum amount of time the systems can be out of commission, from the moment a disruption occurs, to the moment the system is available again. Minimising RTO helps users avoid the consequences of a break in business continuity.
With ShadowProtect from StorageCraft, business owners can minimise their recovery time objective by reducing server and systems downtime, with bare metal recovery within minutes. They can restore 20Tb of data in moments.
ShadowProtect offers a hardware-independent restore (HIR) using a bootable recovery CD containing a library of drivers to detect new hardware and dissimilar hardware, and has the ability to restore to and from virtual environments. Existing backups can be converted to several VMware formats, including VHD format for Microsoft Hyper-V.
* Local support and availability – licenses and support are now locally available from IP Dimension, an IT services company based in Centurion, Pretoria. IP Dimension has achieved the necessary certification in London, and will be announced as the first StorageCraft Certified Solutions Partner not only in South Africa, but the whole of Africa.
