CSX Customer Services, a division of Metrofile Holdings, has been awarded the tender to deliver scanners and related services required by Stats SA for the upcoming South African National Census. It is estimated that the census will require roughly 225-million documents to be scanned in order to capture data electronically for the calculation of the statistics.

According to Mario Martins, divisional director of CSX Customer Services, the need for accuracy and reliability in the data capture process was a critical factor in the choice of supplier.
“CSX is the only service company that has the infrastructure and fully factory trained technical staff to maintain the scanners during the data capturing process by Stats SA staff.”
Martins says that Stats SA has purchased 14 Kodak i1860 high-speed high-volume scanners that can scan up to 200 pages per minute.
“The speed of the scanners coupled with the efficiency of the CSX staff will enable a speedy and effective collaboration process for the SA National Census. We learnt a lot from our experience from the last Census when we supported Stats SA’s scanning process at that time.”
Calvin Molongoana, project director for the Census 2011, comments: “We have chosen CSX Customer Services as our partners as they assisted us with the previous census and have a wealth of experience in projects of this nature. Their technicians are Kodak factory trained and they have the necessary resources in terms of technical staff as well as spares to support us throughout this very important project.”
