Providing customers with a solution for unattended payment applications, Westcon SA has announced the availability of the MagneSafe I-65 from MagTek, the global provider of card readers, cheque readers and scanners, PIN pads and card issuing systems.

MagTek is a leading manufacturer of electronic devices and systems for the reliable issuance, reading, transmission and security of cards, checks, PINs and other identification documents. The company’s products include secure card readers, check scanners, PIN pads and distributed credential issuing systems, for secure and efficient electronic payment and identification transactions.
The MagneSafe I-65 delivers a layered approach to card data security by removing the complexities of encryption and key management from the original equipment manufacturer. The device has been designed to assist merchants meet PCI DSS requirements when processing card data from unattended terminals such as kiosks, vending machines and ticket machines.
“There is a growing demand from merchants being placed on OEMs to ensure that their terminals are ‘PCI ready’,” says Jacques Malherbe, CEO of Westcon SA.
“However, there is still a challenge where data encryption and key management issues can complicate the sale of unattended terminals and integration into merchant’s payment gateways."
From the moment the card is read, card data on-board the MagneSafe I-65 is encrypted using open-standards encryption via 3DES/DUKPT, protecting against data theft and internal terminal data breaches.
From the factory, the MagneSafe I-65 can be configured to transmit data to the host by "in the clear", easing the processes of integration, testing, acquirer certification and delivery of the terminal.
Once the terminal is ready for production, or installed at a merchant location, the MagneSafe I-65 can be securely re-configured to offer point-to-point encryption as part of an overall strategy by the merchant to meet PCI DSS requirements.
“With the release of the new MagneSafe I-65, we are now able to offer merchants a solution that is designed to allow the sale of unattended terminals as ‘PCI ready‘, removing the complexities of encryption and key management from the OEM,” ends Malherbe.
