The past weekend’s Oppikoppi music festival was enjoyed not only by the thousands of visitors who flocked to the Limpopo town of Northam but also by fans around the country and the world thanks to a live video stream.
Oppikoppi features a wide range of local musicians who perform on multiple stages to the delight of thousands of fans who ‘trek’ to the venue every year.
Andrew Aitken, a director of Antfarm, says it will be the third year that his company is providing the technology to handle the video streaming.
“Oppikoppi has a large fan base and every year thousands of converts spend a fun-filled weekend under the stars watching and listening to their favorite bands,” he says. “Although there is no Internet connectivity at the farm venue, we make use of a mobile VSAT connection in order to facilitate the video streaming.”
The video was streamed via four international video distribution platforms, allowing it to be broadcast worldwide in realtime.
The international video distribution platforms include Ustream, Justin.tv, Dailymotiom and Livestream.
