Is HP having a change of heart after announcing that it will drop its WebOS-based tablet and smartphone devices? Last week, the company decided to offload all its TouchPads at bargain prices – and sold out in about an hour. Now it’s decided to manufacture one more run of the products.
HP’s social media strategist Mark Budgell, broke the news yesterday on the company’s blog and already some analysts are wondering if the unexpected sell-out of the TouchPads has sparked second thoughts by HP.
Budgell says the enthusiasm for the reduced-price TouchPads was unexpected. “Since we announced the price drop, the number of inquiries about the product and the speed at which it disappeared from inventory has been stunning. I think it’s safe to say we were pleasantly surprised by the response,” he writes.
“Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand. We don’t know exactly when these units will be available or how many we’ll get, and we can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase.”
