Oracle and Canon will work together to combine imaging technologies from Canon in Oracle software products.
The collaboration, announced by Canon, Canon IT Solutions, Oracle and Oracle Japan, will bring Canon’s imaging to Oracle products including Oracle Database, Oracle WebLogic Server, Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle WebCenter and Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME).
In addition, Canon IT Solutions will integrate Oracle capabilities into Canon imaging technology to create a new flexible imaging platform, based on a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).
With this new platform, which Canon IT Solutions plans to begin delivering in 2012, Canon printers and copiers, including imageRunner Advance systems, will be able to connect to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and CRM applications including Oracle Applications. The platform will support the automating of workflows to achieve increased business efficiencies, including imaging and document processes.
Once available, the SOA-ready platform will also connect to imaging devices such as multi-function office systems and printers.
Customers will be equipped to fully maximize business efficiencies.
Currently, Canon utilizes Java ME for its proprietary Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform (MEAP), an application platform for third-party developers, supported by imageRunner Advance multifunction office systems.
“This collaboration with Oracle will deliver significant benefits to our users,” says Masaki Nakaoka, MD and chief executive of Office Imaging Products Operations at Canon. “By combining Canon’s imaging devices and technologies with Oracle software, Canon and Oracle can jointly develop new platforms and services through which we can expect to realize exciting new synergies. This collaboration will bring innovation to Canon’s multifunction office systems as well as more opportunities for growth.”
Chris Baker, Oracle senior vice-president, Worldwide ISV & OEM Sales, adds: “We are thrilled to be aligning with Canon and Canon IT Solutions to develop new office solutions for mid-size to large customers.
“Working closely with Oracle, Canon will leverage Oracle’s leading technologies to create a new, SOA-based platform that we believe will help evolve and modernize the way that companies increase efficiencies across their businesses. We are excited to be collaborating with Canon and taking an important step to evolve imaging solutions. We look forward to bringing this new, flexible platform to the market.”
