Lindi Shortt, a 24-year veteran in local distribution, has been appointed as the new MD of Rectron.

In making the announcement, David Kan, CEO of Rectron’s holding company Mustek, says Shortt brings a wealth of experience to the job she will officially take up on 1 November. He also scotched rumours in the industry about the future positioning of Rectron in the local channel.

“Rectron’s operations have always been run independently within the group and this will continue under the able leadership of Lindy Shortt,” he says. “It is, and will continue to be, business as usual for Rectron.”

Rectron CFO Gerhard Malan is acting MD until Shortt officially joins the distributor and CEO Mark Lu remains at the company until the end of December, ensuring a smooth transition period.

Shortt says she is relishing the challenge of leading one of the country’s top distributors.

“I am really excited about my appointment and at the opportunities in being involved with a leading distributor,” she says. “I recognise the scale of the position and thanks have to go to Mark Lu for his contribution over the years.

“With change come a lot of opportunities and challenges, but I’m looking forward to building on the platform that has already been established at Rectron,” Shortt adds. “My job is to ensure the company has continued growth and success. It has a wonderful platform, a winning formula and my responsibility is to ensure this continues for shareholders, customers and staff.”

Shortt started her career in IT distribution 24 years ago and was Mustek’s first employee as David Kan’s PA when the company launched in 1987.

More recently, she was sales director at consumables distributor Cosi and, when that was acquired by Drive Control and she fulfilled her contractual obligations,  a consultant within the industry to companies such as Verbatim.
