Sony has recalled a number of Bravia flat-screen televisions following reports of an overheating components that could ignite.

The affected models are the KDL-40V3000, KDL-40VL130, KDL-40W3000, KDL-40WL135, KDL-40XBR4 and KDL-40XBR5 televisions.

Brian Siegel, vice-president: television at Sony, issued a statement about the problem, explaining that reports in Japan had highlighted problems with one of the components in the affected Bravia 40-inch models that could have sustained damage. This could result in overheating and, at times, could ignite inside the television.

Although there have been no reports of property or bodily damage arising from the issue, Sony advises customers who have one of the listed models to contact the company to have their sets evaluated and, if necessary, repaired.

Siegel also urges customers who notice an unusual noise, smell or smoking should unplug their sets.
