A suspect has been arrested in connection with the theft of airtime vouchers worth about R5-million.
MTN says it worked closely with the South Africa Police Service to affect the arrest, which comes after an intense internal investigation.
“MTN aims to ensure that our customers are protected and our systems are fully operational to enable us to deliver quality service to our consumers,” says Lilly Zondo, GM: business risk management at MTN SA.
“Through continuous monitoring, which has taken us approximately 18 months, we were able to conclude the investigation and are satisfied that the negative impact that may have been posed by the suspect is done away with.”
Zondo adds that cybercrime is on the increase globally and, for MTN, this arrest is a big “breakthrough”.
