A group calling itself Anonymous Africa has claimed responsibility for a massive DdoS (distributed denial of service) SABC web sites over the weekend, an act that that SABC has condemned.
The broadcaster’s main and news sites were affected, while radio stations SAfm and 5FM were also taken down, but restored during the afternoon.
The hacktivist group has, however, threatened new action, tweeting yesterday: “We will stop the attacks at SABC (for now) at 4pm. We are not done yet’ lots of action coming. Things are going to get wild.”
The hacks are reportedly in response to the SABC’s decision to sanitise news, and no longer report about violent public protests.
