Our client is a Kenyan-based grower and exporter of premium cut flowers, with well-established key markets in Europe. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Interim Executive to support their final stage of buyside Due Diligence. Initially appointed on a contract basis, the opportunity exists for the position become permanent, as the post-buyout company’s CEO.

Reporting to the company’s Board of Directors, whilst leading a staff compliment of 500, the CEO’s responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and growing new markets and distribution channels, for the company’s flowers
  • Analysing market trends and end-customer behaviour, to lead the product development process, in line with changing trends and customer behaviour
  • Maintaining awareness of the competitive landscape
  • Building and maintaining business relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders and customers, with a view to business growth and market expansion
  • Leading annual product pricing initiatives with all customers and stakeholders
  • Driving cost management and operational excellence to maximise on production while maintaining high quality standards and reduced wastage
  • Overseeing the company’s compliance with the relevant statutory, regulatory and industry guidelines
  • Leading the development and the Investment Business Plan, overseeing strategy and cascading to the staff team
  • Coordinating, controlling, monitoring and evaluating work plans and activities, of all subordinates, to ensure realisation of corporate objectives
  • Leading weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting activities
  • Leading monthly management and board meetings

The CEO’s KPI’s will include:

  • Value of new business generated
  • Realising projected financial targets (profitably increase, production acreage, sales, profitability/ROA, liquidity/cash flow)
  • Achieving operational targets (cost control, operational efficiency and quality/safety)
  • Providing the board with timely and accurate performance reports
  • Ability to develop human resources in line with investment strategy

Ideal candidates will hold:

  • 10 years (or more) experience in a similar role in the horticultural or agricultural sector, with full P&L responsibility, ideally in an entrepreneurial role
  • Floriculture experience with exposure to various distribution channels globally
  • Experience expanding farm production capacity
  • Experience growing existing markets, acquiring and growing new markets as well as distribution channels
  • Experience in product development and pricing is desirable
  • Hands on experience overseeing financial management including cash flow and cost management
  • A working knowledge or a good understanding of the certification and standards in the Kenyan floriculture industry
