R & D CHEMIST

Purpose of the role:
A well-established organisation that focuses on the distribution of chemical raw materials to the cosmetic, coatings, plastics ink, water treatment and associate industries. The organisation is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and self-motivated R & D Chemist to join their team.
The successful incumbent will be responsible for the following:
- Formulating product prototypes and evaluate them for chemical and physical properties and performance
- Develop new formulations for different personal care products and household products
- Assist with some developmental work in the paint/coatings and food divisions as well
- Improve current formulations of products when needed
- Assist and analyse raw materials when there are customer complaints
- Involved with stock take of raw materials
- Involved in overseeing repacking of raw materials stored in the lab under controlled environment
- Oversee sampling of raw materials to customers
- Research product formulations and properties of raw materials
- Establish product specifications and procedures as required for R & D projects
- Support scale-ups from prototype to commercial manufacture particularly to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). (May involve travelling to certain customer’s manufacturing site to assist with the initial scale up of approved formulations)
- Will work closely with affiliated stability testing laboratory
- Support on technical service for customers
- Conduct research and testing on new raw materials from alternative or new suppliers
- Provide technical and supervisory support within laboratory and other departments as required
- Coordinate research and development activities within all organizational departments.
- Develop reports and documents detailing project processes, results and conclusions.
- Perform any other routing laboratory tasks as required
- Attend product training and supplier meetings
Requirements:
- B Sc (Chemistry) or related degree
- Coschem industry-based course will be advantageous
- 3 – 5 years’ of formulation experience within a similar industry
- Willing to travel
