• Assesses legal and regulatory risks affecting the business in South Africa as guided by the Senior Legal Counsel
  • Provides legal advice and opinions, supervised by the Senior Legal Counsel
  • Ensures legal sign off of documents, as advised by Senior Legal Counsel
  • Provides proactive recommendations regarding possible risk mitigation steps to Senior Legal Counsel
  • Keeps abreast of legal developments through participation in industry bodies
  • Solicits internal feedback on legal services
  • Reviews, prepares and draft contracts and related legal documentation
  • Evaluates proposed legislation and interprets its impact on business operations in a timely manner once published
  • Communicates implications of new or amended legislation with strategic proposals and
  • Recommendations to Senior Legal Counsel and, as advised, relevant stakeholders (BU management, other legal staff, etc.)
  • Provides continuous updates on legal developments in South Africa relevant to business operations
  • Gathers opinions on specific legislative proposals
  • Identifies potential areas of legal risk and vulnerability and develops, implements and monitors
  • Corrective action and controls under supervision of Senior Legal Counsel

QUALIFICATION ,SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • B Com or LLB Degree
  • Admitted Attorney with 3 – 5 years corporate experience
  • Excellent understanding of the law and legal principles necessary to provide legal services to the company
  • Ability to coordinate, facilitate and participate in a collaborative approach as a trusted advisor and solution provider under the supervision of a Senior Counsel
  • Ability to research and formulate concrete legal solutions based on a comprehensive and robust understanding of relevant commercial aspects and an in-depth legal analysis to minimise legal risk
  • Ability to drive the completion of legal tasks or assignments adhering to established project management practices
  • Ability to deliver on time and in full, as committed to internal clients and in relation to the management of expectations and relationships
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently identify, gather and research information from online and offline legal and related sources
  • Strong understanding of key areas of laws
