Our client, within the manufacturing industry seeks to appoint a dynamic and well organised Planning Controller to join their team in Cape Town. The successful incumbent will be required to manage the production planning process, from receipt of the job card to daily production planning and then delivery, to finished goods store, to meet the delivery timelines committed to the customers.

Production planning

  • Ensure that all job cards are collected from the Customer Services Desk department by 16:00 every day for both internally manufactured sales orders and outsourced manufactured sales orders.
  • Send the outsourced manufactured sales order job cards, to them daily.
  • Create a daily production plan for the factory, that must take into account the following:

Material availability on hand
Capacity utilization per product line
Delivery times committed to customers.
Planned maintenance on product lines.
Availability of factory staff
Any shortfalls/excesses from the previous day production plan
Repair jobs/NCR’s that need to be done.
FTPR’s per product line

  • Meet with the supervisors and team leaders daily, as soon as the shift starts, and discuss with them the daily production plan.
  • Daily, give the Customer Service Desk department an alert, if the delivery date committed to the customer will not be met, as well as informing them of the new expected delivery date.
  • Manage the outsourced manufacturing suppliers, and the outsourced ex-works suppliers, to ensure that they deliver their product within the committed manufacturing timelines.


  • Generating and distributing the daily production plan.
  • Running a daily report of all uncompleted job cards.
  • Running a daily report on status of outsourced manufactured sales orders and ex works sales orders.
  • Report on job cards where the time remaining to the committed delivery date to the customer, is outside of the tolerable limits.

Department Management

  • Management of employees.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports to ensure personal development of team members.
  • Ensure staff development so that the required expertise and skills are maintained.
  • Ensure effective leave and absentee management.
  • Investigate and resolve performance issues timeously.

  • Ensure the team understands and protect the confidentiality of information.

  • Relevant Degree/Diploma advantageous –
  • Must have experience of being a Master Production Scheduler in a manufacturing concern. –
  • At least 5 years planning administration experience in a manufacturing or related environment. –
  • Excellent Microsoft office skills
