Purpose
iThemba LABS seeks to appoint a Senior Electronics Technician. This role includes Maintenance, repair and design of more than 400 high stability, high power, computer controlled power supplies for the particle accelerators at iThemba LABS.
• BTech / Advanced Diploma in Electronics• 5 Years’ Experience in Heavy and Light Current Electronics
Skills & attributes:â–ª Skills in soldering. â–ª Electronic module testing and repair. â–ª Sound knowledge of analog and digital electronicsâ–ª Sound knowledge of high power electronicsâ–ª Dealing with electronic components and suppliers. â–ª PLC Programmingâ–ª GUI Designâ–ª Control system and instrumentation designsâ–ª Administration skills regarding stores managementâ–ª Good interpersonal and communication skillsâ–ª Analytical thinking skillsâ–ª Strong mechanical aptitudeâ–ª Excellent problem solving abilitiesâ–ª Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision
Duties will include but are not limited to:• First line maintenance of over 400 power supplies• Breakdown repairs of power supplies• Fault finding and fixing of interface/control electronics• Specification, design, procurement, testing and implementation of new power supplies. • Replacement of legacy power supplies• Standby duties and overtime
