A leading organisation is looking for a Linux Systems Specialist to join their team. Linux Systems Specialist will be responsible for all infrastructure and operations of the organization and its operating divisions, spanning multiple data.

Responsibilities:

  • Install and configure Linux operating systems and servers.
  • Perform hardware and systems monitoring.
  • Operating systems and hardware performance management.
  • Ensure availability and performance of the integrated infrastructure systems.
  • Maintain and service components for Linux servers and storage according to best practices and in a cost-effective manner.
  • Afminister storage pools, file system, snapshots and clones on Linux systems.
  • Implementation of infrastructure changes
  • Conduct after hours standby and daily health checks
  • Automation and configuration management
  • Maintaing documentation of Linux hardware and software components and user and operator procedures.
  • Facilitate the implementation of disaster recovery procedures to ensure business continuity.

About The Employer:

Requirements:

  • 6+ years IT infrastructure and operating system experience
  • 4+ years Linux experience
  • 1+ years scripting and automation
  • Virtualisation using KVM, VMware, PowerVM, oVirt
  • Tertiary IT qualification (3 years degree/NQF level 5)
  • Extensive Knowledge of Linux (Red Hat/CentOS)
  • Knowledge of AIX systems will be beneficial
  • Experience with virtualisation platforms (e.g. VMWare)
  • Backup and Recovery procedures for Linux systems
  • Networking (TCP/IP)
  • Authentication – PAM/AD Integration
  • Scripting ; e.g. Bash, Perl & Python
  • Unix Security best practices (Understanding and implementation)
  • Behavioural understanding of Databases (e.g. Oracle, PostgreSQL) and Applications (e.g. Nginx) on Linux will be a beneficial
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in areas of engagement with business
  • Verbal and writing skills, both technical and non-technical
  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture concepts will be beneficial
  • Understanding and knowledge of IT Service Management (ITSM) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) principles for service delivery
  • Knowledge of Agile Principles for project management, rapid prototyping, DevOps
  • Understanding and Execution of Disaster recovery procedures
