Editor’s update

Dear reader

Apple caused a stir this week with the launch of the new Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and the announcement that they are introducing a wearable device, dubbed the Apple Watch – although this will only be available in the first quarter of 2015. The iPhone 6 will have a 4,7-inch screen, while the iPhone 6 Plus will have a 5,5-inch screen.

Cell C was also in the headlines this week after releasing a statement lashing out at the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) regarding the new mobile termination rates. Meanwhile, Old Mutual and Raizcorp have announced that they will be offering a six-month programme aimed at promoting entrepreneurship as a career.

Gartner has highlighted the top 10 strategic technology trends for 2015 and, at the recent Gartner symposium held in Cape Town, urged businesses not to ignore digitalisation, but rather to reinvent their own businesses and remaster their own products.

And finally, local mobile social network platform Mxit has added Oju – the world’s first black emoticons, developed in Nigeria – to its offering.

Until next week,
