Africa may well be the next frontier for growth and expansion for global telecom operators, but a number of major players have encountered serious challenges around the profitability of their investments in trying to establish a sustainable and economically viable footprint on the continent.

The rapid development of Africa’s private sector and emergence of a new class of leading African companies were highlighted at the Initiative for Global Development’s Frontier 100 Forum, signaling a growing recognition that African businesses are moving beyond their local market to enter the world-class space.

Last week, three of HP’s most dedicated partner companies – First Technology, Datacentrix and Aptronics – saw their years of loyalty rewarded as they took home the lion’s share of partner awards available.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s biggest IT distributor, the Pinnacle Group, is upping gears and positioning itself for the future with a number of key strategic announcements which will see a shuffling of top executives, as well as the formation of an additional subsidiary which will focus on new technologies and acquisitions.
