Editor’s update

Dear reader

The sun made headlines this week as a coronal hole was discovered near the south pole of the star. Coronal holes are regions of the corona where the magnetic field reaches out into space rather than looping back down onto the surface. This phenomenon is a type of space weather not yet fully understood.

Also in the news this week was the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in Las Vegas. Two notable trends are wearables, which are tipped to be the hot new technology of 2015; and chips in cars and TVs. Qualcomm Technologies (QTI) and Qualcomm Atheros (QCA)  showcased a range of new connected mobile computing experiences.

And finally, thermal imaging cameras have been billed as the next step in fighting rhino poachers. Effective monitoring is key, and thermal imaging cameras with advanced detection capabilities can offer a more proactive solution to stop poachers – and protect our endangered rhinos.

Until next week,
