Dear reader

WiFi is in the headlines this week as it is set to take off in 2015, becoming akin to a utility such as running water or electricity. Those who don’t have access to it will be at a quality-of-life disadvantage. Meanwhile, HIS has identified three technologies that will be able to change the world. These are the Internet of Everything, cloud computing/big data and 3D printing. The mass up-take of these technologies will rely heavily on a readily-available Internet connection.

Also in the news this week, Elon Musk’s Space X succeeded in delivering supplies to the International Space Station (ISS), but failed to perform the successful landing necessary for the craft to be reused.

And finally, bring your own device (BYOD) may soon be surpassed by the phenomenon of choose your own device (CYOD) – putting control of business data firmly back into the hands of the organisation, and meeting employees’ functional needs while catering to their all-important aesthetic sensibilities.

Until next week,
