Dear reader

Microsoft made headlines this week with the announcement of Windows 10, which will be available as a free upgrade to those using Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1. Windows 10 aims to offer a more personalised, safer, innovative and updated experience for the supported lifetime of the device.

South African organisations have been urged to adopt an “all hands on deck” approach to defend against cyber-attacks, as cybercriminals become more proficient at leveraging gaps in security to evade detection and conceal malicious activity. This comes as ESET has received multiple reports of malware called CTB-Locker Ransomware. A fake e-mail purporting to contain a fax is in fact nothing more than a campaign to spread malicious code, with the ultimate aim of encrypting victims’ files and demanding ransom.

And finally, a survey conducted by Microsoft has shown that an overwhelming majority of Internet users believe that personal technology is making the world a better place to live in, vastly improving the way they shop, work, learn and generally get things done.

Until next week,
