HP SA made headlines this week with a senior management reshuffle. Frank van Rees, country manager and Enterprise Group lead, will be leaving the local operation and returning to Europe. Industry giant Microsoft is also planning a restructure, with the announcement that it is to cut 18 000 jobs over the course of the next year as it seeks to integrate its Nokia devices business.

3D printing has once again been brought into the spotlight by the printing of a two very different items: a pair of luxury headphones; and an automated drone which will be used to film sports events. Both of these items highlight the future role 3D printing can play in the manufacture of consumer goods.

Finally, on the malware front, it was revealed that the Google Play Store contains trojanised versions of apps which can steal users’ details and money – proving that “free” apps may come at a price after all.
