Dear reader

The Mobile Africa 2015 study, conducted by GeoPoll and World Wide Worx, has revealed startling trends surrounding the rise of Internet access via phones, the potential demise of Nokia and the continued appeal of BlackBerry. Mobile phone users in five of Africa’s major markets – South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and Uganda – were surveyed.

Lexmark also made headlines this week, introducing a new corporate brand and logo that represents the successful and ongoing transition of the company. Meanwhile Dell, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (dti) and the Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC), has announced the launch of an IT academy which aims to teach youth the ICT skills South Africa needs to grow economically.

And finally, a partnership between Vodacom and Orlando Pirates Football Club has helped integrate ICT into the Orlando Pirates Learning Centre. The partnership will provide Internet access for learners and teachers living in communities in and around Soweto.

Until next week,
