Anton Herbst, who took on the role of interim CEO of Tarsus Technologies following the shock resignation of Pierre Spies, has been permanently appointed to the position by holding company MB Technologies.
Herbst, regarded by many in the local industry as one of its true visionaries, has also been reappointed to the main MBT board.

Reliable sources indicate that the move couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time as a number of senior managers at Tarsus have recently resigned following aggressive head-hunting by rival distributors. They believe that Herbst’s permanent appointment as CEO will bring about a semblance of stability internally and provide reassurance to its vendor suppliers and customers.

Sources also say that Herbst has spent the majority of his time since being appointed in May meeting with various interested parties and individuals and that the results of his efforts are already bearing fruit in improved monthly revenue figures.

MBT group CEO, Glenn Fullerton, says he has every confidence in Herbst taking Tarsus to the next level of its development.
“His deep knowledge of the market, proven track record, skill set and vision for the channel are welcomed by our vendors, customers and our staff all of whom have provided extremely positive feedback,” says Fullerton. “Anton has hit the ground running and has had an immediate impact on the business. He has extensive knowledge of the group having previously served on the MBT board and has also been an integral part of the MBT team devising the strategy for the next five years and beyond.

“Anton has also been appointed to the MBT main board, a position he has previously held, demonstrating the MBT main board’s confidence in his ability,” Fullerton adds.

Herbst says he is under no illusions about the difficulties currently being faced by the industry, the channel and the company, but relishes the challenge of his new role.

“I am attracted by the rapidly changing dynamics within the IT channel,”
Herbst says. “I am confident about the IT growth prospects in South Africa and the rest of Africa and believe that although we face challenging times in our market, these present us with opportunity.

“Tarsus Technologies remains committed to partnering with its customers on a daily basis and having a meaningful business impact on their lives,” he says.
