The overall document scanner market increased year-on-year by more than 30% to approximately 83 000 shipments in Western Europe in 3Q13, according to the latest Western European Quarterly Document Scanner Tracker from International Data Corporation (IDC).

“Cost reduction initiatives will continue, and document processing tends will be an area of focus,” says Julio Vial, research manager at IDC’s Western European Document Scanner Tracker.

The distributed document scanner segment is the larger of the two main segments in Western Europe, with more than 97% share of the overall document scanner market. The segment increased by 31,2% year-on-year.

Production document scanners increased by 8,7% in 3Q year on year, with segment market share standing at a little more than 3%.

The top five vendors in Western Europe were Brother, Canon, Epson, Fujitsu, and HP, together accounting for 83,9% of the total document scanner shipment market.
