Samsung South Africa launches its latest Galaxy smartphone to the local market today, along with the Gear 2 watch and Gear Fit.

The new device, which will retail on post-paid contracts for R10 200.00, has already exceeded the number of pre-orders received for its predecessor, the Galaxy S4, launched last year, says Craige Fleischer, director of mobile communications at Samsung Electronics SA.

“The Galaxy S5 exemplifies Samsung’s commitment to ‘people-inspired innovation’, he adds. “It represents an iconic design with essential and useful features, offering consumers mobile tools that enable them to effortlessly take control of their lives.”

The Galaxy S5 combines an advanced camera, fast network connectivity, dedicated fitness tools and enhanced device protection features.

It features a 16 megapixel camera with an enhanced menu and user interface that allow consumers to easily take, edit and share photos.

The new device delivers a fast autofocus speed up to 0.3 seconds and the real time High Dynamic Range (HDR). The Selective Focus feature allows users to focus on a specific area of an object while simultaneously blurring out the background.

The Galaxy S5 LTE version, model G900F, supports the fifth generation WiFi 802.11ac, 2X2 MIMO and the large number of LTE frequencies, with LTE Category 4 as standard.

For consumers seeking a faster connection, the Galaxy S5 now features Download Booster, an innovative WiFi technology for enhancing data speed by bonding WiFi and LTE simultaneously.

With the improved S Health 3.0, the new Galaxy S5 offers more tools to help you stay fit and healthy. It provides a personal fitness tracker to monitor and manage behaviour, along with additional tools including a pedometer, diet and exercise records and a new built-in heart rate monitor. Galaxy S5 can further be personalised with an enriched third party application ecosystem and the ability to pair with next generation Gear products for real-time fitness coaching.

The new phone features a perforated pattern on the back cover and comes in an array of colours, including charcoal black, shimmery white, coppery gold and electric blue.

The Galaxy S5 is dust and water resistant and IP67 rated. It also offers a Finger Scanner, providing a secure, biometric screen locking feature and replacing traditional passwords and offers access to Private Mode. The Ultra Power
Saving Mode turns the display to black and white, and shuts down all unnecessary features to minimise the battery consumption.

The ADH Premium covers two claims over the 24 month warranty period, including water or screen damage repairs. An additional Smart Swop or Smart Pick-up service is also included for an improved customer experience.

Smart Swop is an elite benefit for Galaxy S5 consumers which allow users to receive a loan device while their smartphone is being repaired. What’s more, Smart Pick-up is a door-to-door solution, meaning the original device will be collected and returned to the consumer anywhere in South Africa.
