Clickatell has announced the winners of the second Annual Mobile Touch Awards, celebrating companies that have used mobile SMS in creative and innovative ways to improve the lives of those around them.

The winners and finalists come from a variety of industries and were selected based on the best new uses for mobile SMS.

The College of Westchester won the People’s Priority Award, an award chosen by voters that honours a company that has impacted customers’ lives by being an agent of change. The College of Westchester received the award for their use of SMS to securely and efficiently communicate with the student body.

Using Clickatell’s API they were able to create an application to allow teachers to contact students using SMS, thus reaching the students in a faster and more tech-savvy manner. The two finalists for the People’s Choice Awards were JBK and FireQ.

Braintree Payment Solutions received the High Five Award given to a company that has come up with a disruptive solution linking mobile SMS to a common problem. Braintree developed Send A Script to help connect customers and their pharmacies to streamline the prescription refill process.

Send A Script allows customers to save their time by receiving a text when their prescription is ready to be picked up, as well as gives them an option to pay via SMS. In addition, Imagine Room and ECI were finalists in the High Five category.

Kubatana was given the award for Community Service, honouring a non-governmental organisation that has used mobile to protect and empower their community. Kubatana is a Zimbabwean company that used SMS to share important information in a country where the mainstream media is strictly controlled and monitored. Subscribers are able to enjoy their right to knowledge and to be informed by receiving instant news via SMS.

Txt4Adherance was the runner-up in this category.
