IBM and HP veteran Oliver Fortuin has taken up the reins at BT, heading its operations in sub-Saharan Africa.

Fortuin will be in charge of growing BT’s business and leading the regional management team.

Best known as country manager of both HP and IBM, and a long-time IBM veteran, Fortuin was most recently MD of i1 Solution, in charge of sales and business management for sub-Saharan Africa.

Kevin Taylor, president: Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa and Turkey at BT Global Services, comments: “We are very pleased that Oliver Fortuin is joining us as our new MD for sub-Saharan Africa. His industry knowledge, background, and strong relationships will be of significant benefit to BT.”

Fortuin is well known in the South African IT industry, with a long history working for IBM and HP. He held the position of country manager of both multinational IT companies for a period, heading up HP briefly from September 2008 until July 2009, then running IBM until July 2012.

He takes over from Keith Matthews, who has held the position for the past eight years and, during that time, guided BT through major growth in the region.

Fortuin is currently an independent non-executive board member of the AdaptIT group.

He holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from Open University, UK. He is a formal mentor for aspiring executives in the community.
