South African telecoms operators launched the new Samsung S6 and S6 Edge over the weekend.

Cell C pulled out the stops for the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, with all new and upgrading contract subscribers receiving an additional 3GB of data for the first four months of their contract.

“Cell C has some great deals on offer for the launch of this much anticipated device and we are pleased to also be able to offer a free wireless charger,” says Cell C CEO, Jose Dos Santos.

Subscribers hoping to get their hands on either the Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge can visit any Cell C store, the Walk in Customer Care Centre in Waterfall or call 145.

At MTN the phones are available on MTN SKY packages for a monthly subscription of R1899 and R1999 respectively.

The company says pre-orders of the new phones has been satisfactory, and they are now available at MTN branded retail stores, MTN Online store and MTN Direct call centres on a number of tariff plans.

“Naturally, smartphone enthusiasts have been waiting for the Samsung S6 and S6 Edge with bated breath. In keeping with our promise to providing consumers with the latest cutting edge smartphone technology, we are ranging these new smart devices at MTN stores countrywide. We have packaged deals that will enable our customers to fully experience the capabilities of the phone on a world-class network,” says Larry Annetts, chief marketing officer at MTN South Africa.

Telkom also believes that its packages for the Samsung S6 and S6 Edge compare favourably across the board and with this new step in Android technology running on Telkom’s Long Term Evolution (LTE) (where available) the high-speed data standard has a higher capacity and more targeted coverage.

This technology offers faster downloads and upload speeds and combined with the beauty of the Samsung S6/S6 Edge this will significantly improve users’ Internet experience, according to the company.
