Wireless IP convergence company MiRO will distribute the Ruckus Wireless range of enterprise WiFi solutions.
Jan Keyser, CTO at MiRO, comments: “MiRO has established a reputation for finding complete wireless solutions for its growing customer base. Ruckus Wireless offers a wide range of indoor and outdoor WiFi products to mobile carriers, broadband service providers, and corporate enterprises. The addition of Ruckus Wireless products to our product stable allows us to extend our penetration into the enterprise arena.”

The relationship between the two companies began with MiRO’s decision to market Ruckus Wireless’ Xclaim brand in early 2015. Touted as ‘WiFi for the non-IT guy’, Xclaim brings the appeal of enterprise-style WiFi to SMME (small, medium, micro enterprise) companies, at a budget-pleasing cost. “We have had amazing feedback from the market, but felt that we were in a position to bring the Ruckus Wireless enterprise grade solution into our expanding product range to provide extended capabilities and coverage for large installations,” Keyser adds.

Ruckus Wireless has 80 patents, with its BeamFlex technology being an industry leader. The company’s investment in its products allow Ruckus Wireless to be innovative and offer more technology advancements. The end result is better coverage with fewer APs, thus allowing for less interference and higher speeds.

BeamFlex beamforming antenna technology allows more devices to connect to the Ruckus Wireless access points (APs), with better signal strength while using less power.

“The ability to provide carrier grade voice on our APs with AQoS (Application Quality of Service) built into the devices, allows for real-time voice calls and enables organisations to drive and implement their unified communications strategies over WiFi. Our controllers offer the market ease of use and management of the installations and configurations takes less time to implement,” says Bruce Pitso, regional sales manager for Ruckus Wireless South Africa.

In addition, Ruckus Wireless’ Smart Access Management service (SAMs) is a hosted public cloud WiFi service that brings together best-in-class WiFi with cloud computing to simplify the provisioning and management of public WiFi access. vSCG (virtual SmartCell Gateway) is a key building block in enabling service providers of all types to provide a complete managed service to their customers. This can include management of the access points on the customer’s premises as well as all back-end systems in their data centre.

Ruckus SPoT Smart Positioning Technology is the industry’s first cloud-based Smart WiFi location-based services (LBS) technology that gives both service providers and enterprises the ability to deliver a wide-range of value added services that can help them increase their profitability while enhancing users’ online experiences.

Keyser points out that while MiRO has been involved in providing solutions for public-access WiFi solutions to guest houses, as well as smaller schools and hotels, the Ruckus Wireless offering will catapult them into a whole new arena that encompasses large hotel groups, corporate facilities, the public/service sector and large educational facilities. “We were particularly attracted to the targeted customer base of ISPs and integrators, who have very specialised skills and who will clearly benefit from the provision of a high-end product like Ruckus.”

Ruckus Wireless is equally excited about the relationship and the benefits that will accrue to its South African operation. “MiRO has a specific target market and we felt that this partnership would allow Ruckus Wireless to engage and grow specifically in the ISP and WISP space in South Africa. Additionally, we view MiRO as a leading distributor in this space with their technologies being ideal in expanding the Ruckus Wireless offering,” says Pitso.
