Standard Bank will extend its branch opening hours for a few days to help customers catch up after yesterday’s extensive systems shutdown.
Internet banking was down for most of the day, along with the banking app, call centres and branches. The only transactions possible were withdrawals from ATMs.

Standard Bank has pinned the blame for what it calls “a disruption” on a hardware problem.

The bank will extend operating hours of its branches until 17h00 for a few days to address the backlog of customers who were not able to transact yesterday.

“Standard Bank takes this matter very seriously as it is important that our customers are able to access all of our services seamlessly and without fail 24/7. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused. We continue to monitor the system closely,” says Funeka Montjane, Standard Bank’s chief executive: personal and business banking, South Africa.
