South Africa’s recently-launched dotJoburg (.joburg), dotCapeTown (.capetown) and dotDurban (.durban) domain names now cost as little as domains within the well-established co.za domain name system.
There are now 11 300 domains registered that reflect the names of South Africa’s three major metropolitan cities compared to more than 1-million co.za domains.
According to Wayne Diamond, MD of Domains.co.za, rapid take-up by local and overseas individuals and organisations interested in securing a slice of valuable South African Web real estate has resulted in economies of scale.
“As a spring promotion, Domains.co.za, in conjunction with the registry, is able to offer dotJoburg, dotCape Town and dotDurban domain names, launched in mid-2014, at the same price as domains within the 20 year-old co.za domain name space,” says Diamond.
“We’re hopeful that reduced dotJoburg, dotCapeTown and dotDurban pricing will help take the number of registered South African city domain names right up and over the 20 000 milestone,” Diamond says.
For the month of September 2015, Domains.co.za will offer .Joburg, .Durban & .Capetown domain name registration at the same rate as co.za domains, which is currently R75.00.
