TEDxJohannesburg has announced the speaker line-up for its inaugural TEDxSalon, themed The Disruptors, to be hosted at the Gordon Institute of Business Science’s campus in Illovo, Johannesburg on 18 August 2016 from 10:00am – 2:30pm.
TEDxSalon is an extension of TEDx that affords communities the opportunity to engage outside of the flagship TEDx event. TEDxSalons focus on specific themes or issues of interest, providing a platform and opportunity to spark robust discussions. Because the audiences are smaller compared to standard TEDx events, there are more chances to engage and exchange ideas at a TEDxSalon.
TEDxJohannesburgSalon: The Disruptors will focus on the growth of the social enterprise and profile social entrepreneurs who are challenging and redefining the way business is done in South Africa.
‘We are very excited to be hosting our first TEDxSalon in Johannesburg. Our theme is a nod to the book, The Disruptors, which is a collection of stories that profile social entrepreneurs in South Africa. The TEDxJohannesburgSalon will expand the ongoing discussion on the importance of social entrepreneurship in engendering social and economic change in South Africa,” said Kelo Kubu, convenor of TEDxJohannesburg.
Speakers at the TEDxJohannebsurgSalon are a number of social entrepreneurs who are running successful social enterprises in South Africa.
The line-up includes Yusuf Randera-Rees, co-founder and CEO of Awethu; Pat Pillai, founder and CEO of LifeCo UnLtd SA; Greg Maqoma, founder and MD of Vuyani Dance Theatre; Fikile Moeti, radio host and philanthropist; and Kumi Naidoo, human rights activist and former international executive director of Greenpeace.
