Careers24 has announced a major partnership with Udemy, a global marketplace for learning and teaching online that will give the Careers24 users access to thousands of carefully curated, online courses. Udemy recently announced a strategic investment from Naspers to continue its international growth.
Globally, Udemy offers 40,000 online courses in 80 different languages. The Careers24 team has identified a selection of those courses that are best suited for South African job seekers and will make them available on their website under the Courses tab.
“The importance of online learning in South Africa has become increasingly clear over the last few years. When looking at the benefits of online learning, such as affordability, accessibility and ongoing productivity for both on-the-job training as well as for job seekers, it is easy to understand why the sector is growing, despite infrastructural challenges like internet access,” says Marc Privett, Careers24 GM.
The Careers24 strategic partnership with Udemy allows the online job portal to align Udemy’s courses with their job offerings. In essence, this means they are able to advise candidates who lack specific skills for a particular job advertisement on what they courses they need to take in order to apply successfully for a desired position. “This is going to help us focus on providing tools and services that help candidates make informed decisions about their next job application,” adds Privett.
International market research firm, Ambient Insight Research, has reported an expected global revenue reach of $50.4bn by 2020 in the e-learning sector with the African market showing up as one of the most dynamic in the research due to their expected growth rate of 16.3%, which was the highest out of all the markets reported on. The report also showed that revenues in Africa reached $523m in 2015 which are forecast to nearly double to $1,1-billion by 2020.
Udemy is dedicated to helping people around the world build the lives they imagine through online learning. All Udemy courses are available on demand and students have lifetime access to the content allowing them to learn at their own pace. In addition, Udemy courses can be taken on a computer, tablet, or smartphone, and content can be viewed offline, which provides education anywhere and anytime.
“Learning new skills and continuously building practical knowledge allows our students to gain confidence in today’s constantly changing work environment,” says Richard Qiu, VP of Business Development at Udemy. “We’re thrilled to partner with Careers24 and bring relevant courses to their users who are seeking career and life advancement.”
“Careers24 is one of South Africa’s biggest online job portals so it makes complete sense for us to partner with Udemy,” adds Privett. “What we are now able to offer job seekers is going to place us head and shoulders above the rest of the market. The partnership is an investment in technology that is going to help us further meet the needs of both job seekers and recruiters. But more than that, we are thrilled to be able to offer our users real support in the form of a 360 degree focus on their needs.”
