DevConf 2.0 doubles in size

The standing-room only success of South Africa’s inaugural DevConf developer conference has prompted the expansion of DevConf in Johannesburg in 2017.
As the only major independent developer conference in South Africa, DevConf 2016 seats sold out fast, with over 470 professional software developers and programmers in attendance to get hands-on access to the latest development tools and technologies.
Thanks to the inaugural event’s success, DevConf will increase in size in 2017, with a larger venue to accommodate an expected 700 attendees.
DevConf 2017, to be staged at Vodaworld in Midrand on 9 March 2017, will feature more talks across five tracks. With 168 speaker proposals from 15 countries, DevConf plans to present only the most insightful and useful talks based on the hottest trends right now. Trending keywords such as Git, C#, Java, Neo4J, refactoring, NoSQL, Ansible will be in evidence.
Tracks will focus on Crafting Code, Persistence & Data, DevOps & Automation, Tools & Frameworks and Teams & People, with deep dives into the latest technology trends, including the future of AR, VR and drones, says co-organiser Robert MacLean. “The aim of the conference is to provide local software developers a buffet of tools, practices and principles applicable to tackling current challenges in the South African software development environment,” he says.
DevConf grew out of the Developer User Group forum and monthly meetings coordinated by Robert MacLean, Candice Mesk, Terence Kruger, Mark Pearl and others – all veteran developers themselves. With over 2000 members in the user group, MacLean and Pearl identified among them a need for a major technical conference for software developers, database-focused professionals, software deployment teams, team leads and solution architects.
“The success of the first DevConf has seen an overwhelming response to our call for speakers, 2017 attendees putting their name on a waiting list during last year’s event, and top companies taking up sponsorship opportunities for 2017,” says MacLean.
Current sponsors include BBD; DVT; Offerzen and more to be announced shortly, with a limited number of sponsorship opportunities still available.
