Azumi-Mobile, a fast-growing global manufacturer of smartphones, is moving aggressively into the sub-Saharan Africa market with cost-effective mobile phones.
The company has unveiled two entry smartphones, the Kirei A45D and the Kirei A5D, both based on the MediaTek MT6570 platform.
Following its successful expansion in Europe and the Americas, Azumi is targeting the following African countries for growth: South Africa, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Tayshira Santamaria, head of Africa at Azumi-Mobile, comments: “We work closely with MediaTek to create products that deliver premium features like larger screens, 3G/4G and great processing power yet are affordable in the lower and middle tiers of the market.
“Collaborating with MediaTek helps us to build affordable devices that offer quality and features usually associated with flagship devices, and to reduce total cost, risk, and time to market for new products.”
The MT6570 system-on-chip is a highly integrated 2-chip solution producing MediaTek’s most cost effective 3G smartphone chipset platform. The MT6570 has an optimised version of Android M which provides a durable user experience that allows mobile applications to keep performing smoothly even after extended use. The MT6570 offers low power consumption providing a much longer battery life.
This tight integration of components makes the platform much more efficient, enabling manufacturers to improve final product performance, quality and value. On the processing side, MT6570 outperforms previous solutions in terms of power-efficiency and performance thanks to its dual-core CPU based on Cortex A7.
Dominique Friedl, head of corporate sales: South and sub-Saharan Africa at MediaTek, says: “Our goal is to provide solutions that enable makers of mobile devices to reduce the time they spend on hardware and software design, benchmarking, and advanced feature development. Azumi has done an amazing job creating devices using MediaTek’s design and versatile components to make premium smartphone technology more affordable and accessible to all.”
