South African companies can now access the very latest mobile device management (MDM) features and tools from the industry leader, Zenprise, through trusted cloud security services provider, Securicom.
The company, which provides the Zencloud that enables South African companies to access Zenprise’s advanced MDM tools from the cloud, has upgraded to the latest version, Zenprise 7.01, which was released end of 2012.
“Zenprise 7.01 takes enterprise mobile device management to a whole new level. The awesome enhancements and easy-to-use features increase the functionality and value of Zenprise as an enabler of companies’ mobile strategies, whether they are at the core phase or at the point where they are putting mobile to work for business optimisation,” says Securicom’s operations director, Dries Morris.
Zenprise is the only end-to-end, enterprise-grade mobile device management solution currently available. It boasts advanced security features and comprehensive tools for managing mobile devices across an enterprise, supporting every major smart mobile device platform including iOS, Android, Blackberry, Symbian and Windows Mobile.
With Zenprise, companies can do core mobile device management functions and go beyond device lifecycle management with advanced capabilities for deploying and managing applications, managing data on devices, and using mobile “to work” in the enterprise.
Offering it from the cloud, Securicom gives companies of all shapes and sizes – including those with limited resources – access to best-of-breed MDM tools. The solution is hosted in the cloud by Securicom, but company administrators are in control of managing their mobile environments.
Zenprise 7.01 now includes a dashboard that gives administrators a quick, single point of view of the state of the system as well as all endpoints. The dashboard can be customised for different reports.
The new version of Zenprise also offers a dedicated section for device enrolment that includes options such as MDM server discovery, e-mail or SMS notification. The group enrolment features make it much easier to deploy the Zenprise MDM software to a large number of users at once. With this feature, Zenprise can import a CSV file to populate its database for bulk enrolment.
Another key enhancement is the iOS location services, geo-tracking and geo-fencing features which allow admins to set location service policies to devices at any given time. This industry-first feature enables companies to track devices via GPS and can take action in the event that a device is removed from a specific location.
The solution’s automated actions and notifications capabilities have also been fine-tuned so that users can be notified through different channels, including e-mail, SMS and agent push, when they have violated a policy or when their device is rooted or jail-broken.
The new version extends Zenprise’s secure content and collaboration capabilities to Android by providing the industry’s first secure integration with Microsoft SharePoint and Office365, enhancing Zenprise’s first-to-market mobile DLP solution for iOS by enabling users to annotate documents in the secure mobile content container provided by Zenprise.
Zenprise 7.01 makes it almost impossible to remove the Zenprise agent from Android devices.
Other minor updates include:
* Zenprise ZDM can recognise active directory usernames;
* Andriod and iOS Enterprise App catalogue – this gives the ability to provide users with a list of recommended apps for their device. iOS can now re-brand the enterprise app catalogue;
* Samsung Integration, which is pending on ZDM 7.0 Samsung Android agent approval;
* iOS enrolment no longer dependent on UDID;
* Perimeter network access control, which can block devices from registering in a company network; and
* Improvements to viewing service level agreement information and updating license files.
Securicom works in partnership with Blue Turtle Technologies which has the distribution rights to Zenprise in Africa. Through their partnership, Securicom and Blue Turtle can offer Zenprise as an on-premise solution; or deliver it as a cloud-based IT security service/ fully-managed, locally-hosted service.
The companies recently launched a partner programme aimed at establishing a credible channel for meeting the burgeoning demand for MDM technologies and services in South Africa.
