Securicom has upgraded its robust Managed Firewall solution with an advanced reporting engine to offer businesses tools for enhanced monitoring, management and insight into the status of the firewall and user behaviour.
The solution features an online dashboard which provides realtime intelligence on trends and events on the system including bandwidth and CPU utilisation; unusual or disallowed user browsing actions, length of browsing sessions; Web sites accessed; status of ports; and other security-related aspects.
The system also delivers alerts on a wide range of criteria, which can be configured to suit business requirements, allowing administrators to respond quickly to issues and events.
The reporting engine is offered as a value-added add-on to the existing Managed Firewall Service. Securicom’s Brenwin Traill explains that the bells-and-whistles solution is for companies that want greater visibility and immediate insight into the status of their firewall and employees’ browsing habits.
“With the new reporting engine and dashboard, companies can immediately see if a port goes down or if an employee accesses a Web site they shouldn’t be visiting, or if there is a spike in traffic. Not only does the system offer a higher level of reporting, but it also provides for long term log retention which is beneficial for compliance and investigation purposes.
“While the standard Managed Firewall solution keeps logs for 60 days, the advanced version allows companies to keep logs for as long as their compliance requirement dictates.”
Securicom’s Managed Firewall provides robust perimeter protection and new generation UTM security features. The solution combines best-of-breed technologies from trusted providers.
These are innovatively packaged and delivered as an integrated service to provide perimeter protection; secure Web browsing; Web content and URL filtering; network traffic management; virus protection; secure remote connectivity, and safe site-to-site communication.
With Securicom Managed Firewall Services there is no need for companies to buy, deploy and manage various point solutions. Securicom has packaged together industry leading firewall and Web security technologies to combat inbound and Web-based security threats with one solution. Companies simply subscribe to the service which is configured, deployed and maintained by Securicom.
Securicom Managed Firewall Service is non-invasive to the client infrastructure and there are no special system requirements apart from Internet connectivity. The solution is Ethernet-based so there is no direct interface with any telco infrastructure, further reducing risk.
The standard version also features a user-friendly online management console which provides company administrators with tools for managing low risk functions and reviewing configurations. Optionally, a wireless controller centralises the management and monitoring of all supported APs, securing access points on one console to ease the management of wireless traffic.
According to Traill, Securicom is working on developing the upgraded Managed Firewall solution into a fully-managed security information and event management (SIEM) service early in 2013.
“This will combine our advanced perimeter protection features with sophisticated Web security tools, backed by team of security experts and offered as one managed service. It’s the next step in the evolution of our managed firewall solution,” he concludes.
