Sony has been hit with a fine for failing to prevent the 2011 cyber-attack that compromised users’ personal information.

The 250 000 pound fine was levied by Britain’s Information Commissioner, relating to the attack by Anonymous on Sony’s PlayStation Network.

The Commissioner believes the attack could have been prevented and security measures were not good enough. If the software had been up to date, and passwords secure, it may not have happened.

Sony plans to appeal the fine.
