Rumours were abounding this weekend about the possibility of Lenovo buying Research in Motion’s hardware assets – including the BlackBerry 10, to be launched on Wednesday.
Mobile Marketing Watch reports that Lenovo is assessing potential acquisition targets, which could include a deal with Research in Motion.
Lenovo’s chief financial officer, Wong Wai Ming, told Bloomberg that the company is looking at all opportunities, including RIM. However, he couldn’t confirm whether an offer was on the table.
RIM is to launch the new BlackBerry 10 on Wednesday, and CEO Thorsten Heins has been quoted as saying the company may consider strategic alliances, such as licensing its software or selling its hardware business.
