Research in Motion (RIM) has ceased to exist, and the company will henceforth be known as BlackBerry.
Announcing the new name and brand, Thorsten Heins, CEO and president of the new BlackBerry, says the change signifies one brand and one promise.
“Our customers use BlackBerry, our employees work for BlackBerry and our shareholders use BlackBerry,” he says.
“From today, we are BlackBerry everywhere in the world. This is a new starting line that today begins with one consistent brand – one that is recognised around the world.
“We have re-designed the BlackBerry experience, re-engineered our products and re-invented the company.
“We are united in one vision, with the launch of the BlackBerry 10.”
Heins comments that the last year has been a journey of transformation of BlackBerry, as the company worked to transform is brand, its device and the mobile environment as a whole.
“This is one of the biggest launches in the mobile industry,” he says. “And this is not the finish line, it is the starting line.”
