Telkom Internet will next week (4 March) launch VDSL-based broadband products that will let customers experience speeds of up to 20Mbps and 40Mbps.
Telkom MD: Consumer Services and Retail, Manelisa Mavuso, says the development of these products will improve the Internet experience in South Africa.
“This is in line with the greater focus on our ISP to enable powerful gaming platforms, business tools and the delivery of rich media content in an increasingly bandwidth-hungry society,” says Mavuso.
These high speed products will, for now, be launched in selected areas. The initial rollout will take place at street distribution cabinet (SDC) sites that underwent network upgrades in Benmore Gardens, Fourways and Waterkloof in Gauteng, Durban North in KwaZulu-Natal and Durbanville in the Western Cape.
The DSL Checker can be used as of 4 March, to verify if customers are within the footprint for the new products.
Customers wanting the new products will require a VDSL modem from Telkom Internet that is backward compatible with ADSL to ensure optimal performance, and allows for remote management from the ISP.
MD for Telkom Business, Dr Brian Armstrong, welcomes the launch of fibre based technology.
“This new offer combined with our business ISP offering promises business customers great value, world class service quality and flawless customer experience.
“Broadband is the essential business connection for the 21st century. This step sets the stage for our ambition to provide ubiquitous, quality broadband in South Africa for every customer,” concludes Dr Armstrong.
