Swift, the international financial messaging provider for more than 10 000 financial institutions and corporations in 212 countries and territories, has appointed Pretoria-based Trustlink as its business partner to support the rapid growth in payment traffic across the West, Central and southern African regions.
According to Hugo Smit, head of the Swift Africa South region, Swift has seen significant growth in payment traffic in these regions.
“Traffic growth in West, Central and southern African markets is consistently outperforming global traffic growth in the last few years,” he says.
Commenting on the appointment of Trustlink, Smit says, “Business partners play an important role as Swift grows rapidly across the African continent.
“Payment traffic from this region, excluding South African figures, has grown by more than 30% since 2009,” Smit adds. “We are also experiencing a growing need for SWIFT products and services, with revenue from these sources making up 50% of total revenue.
“We remain committed to grow our footprint in this region, but we recognise that offering new products and services is not sufficient: we also need to maintain close customer relationships. Partners are essential to complement our reach and to ensure we maintain a high standard of customer service.”
“Swift and Trustlink already have a close working relationship that has been developed over a number of years. We have always appreciated the high standard of services, commitment and professionalism of Trustlink and I look forward to strengthening our relationship even further,” says Denis Kruger, Swift channel manager for the region.
“Trustlink is delighted to be appointed as a business partner for Swift covering the sub-Saharan Africa region. The appointment as business partner extends the portfolio of Swift products and services that we can offer to customers and also extends our reach into West Africa,” says Tertius Vermeulen, CEO of Trustlink.
“This creates exciting opportunities for both parties and we remain committed to work closely with Swift in order to provide a high quality of services to Swift customers.”
